How to Remove Alcohol Stains From Your Clothes

It happens to everyone, even you. Sooner or later you'll have a shirt, dress, or other piece of clothing that's been stained with alcohol.

Sooner or later in your life, you're bound to spill some alcohol on your favourite shirt or dress. It's just one of the general rules of life - it's what you do when this happens that counts. It is possible to remove alcohol stains from your clothes, and here's how.

Before you do anything, make sure you know what you're "allowed" to do to your clothes. You can generally find any warnings about washing the article of clothing in question on the label. Keep this warnings in mind - if you don't pay attention to them, you could have much worse than an alcohol stain to deal with.

After you know the rules and regulations for dealing with your clothes, launder them in hot water. The water should be as hot as is possible without ruining your clothes. Also, remember to use detergent instead of a soap, as the soap will probably help to set the stain - definitely not what you want here. Leave a couple of minutes for the detergent to soak into the clothes.

After you're done, soak the article of clothing in about a litre of warm water - warm, not hot. You can add two teaspoons of presoaking agent. Then start stirring the water and the garment. The aim with this is to mix the fabric together with the cleaning "potion", so that the stain gets lifted. If required, you can try scrubbing the garment against itself. After this, wash the article of clothing.

If the stain still persists, try soaking it in cold water with a detergent for 30 minutes. When done, rinse it and repeat the stirring procedure above again. If you really need to, you can resort to using bleach on the garment (as long as bleach is suitable for it - remember those warnings). Wash the garment again after this.

Before you dry it, make sure that the stain is completely gone. If there is any sugar remaining in the garment, then the heat from drying it will cause it to turn into a brown stain, which definitely will not look good.

Remember to follow the precautions of your garment as you do this, and good luck!
