The other day I ran out of my favorite cleaning product which smells like lemons. We have nothing but hardwood floors in the house and I like to use this product to mop the floors. I generally use vinegar to clean my counters, followed by a quick wipe with a paper towel spritzed with bleach. But, although vinegar would work well on my floors, it doesn't smell that nice. I also had some lemon juice concentrate which has that fresh clean scent. After some experimentation I hit upon a formula that not only gets my floors cleaner than they have ever been, but smells very good and is cheaper than my formerly favorite cleaning product.
Vinegar-Lemon Juice Floor Cleaner
- One gallon of water
- Four cups of vinegar
- One cup of lemon juice concentrate
Mix vigorously and use liberally.
Now, if you have polyurethane on your hardwood floors, you shouldn't use a wet mop. Both vinegar and lemon juice are acidic and it can, over time, damage your finish. Be sure to just use a damp mop. This also works fabulously on linoleum, stone or tile floors.
