Have you ever had one of those days when you need something for a project or just a chore you want to finish but you don't have the product you need to get the job done? You may very well have the necessary items sitting all alone on a shelf just waiting to be used.
TOOTHPASTE
Burns: if you don't happen to have a aloe plant handy, toothpaste makes a good salve for minor burns. Rinse under cold water and then apply.
Glue: if you want to hang your posters without making pinholes in the wall or use glue, toothpaste in the corners and around the edges will hold your posters well and when you take them off, you just wipe it off - no damage.
Jewellery: lightly brush your diamond ring and rinse clean for a sparkling shine.
ALKA SELTZER
The main ingredient is aspirin, so if you have allergies to aspirin - don't use it.
Urinary tract infections: if you are prone to UTI's, take two tablets in water as soon as you feel one coming on. When taken at the onset, they work very well.
Jewellery: Do not use on pearls or opals. Put two tabs in water and put your rings and things in to make them sparkle.
Insect bites: dissolve two tablets in water, and use a cotton ball or q-tip to soak some up and then apply to the itchy bite.
BAKING SODA
Dog: lightly dust some in Fido's coat, massage it in, brush it out. It will help your doggie smell fresher.
Shoes: when the kids wear their runners in the summer without socks…phew, just pour enough in to cover the sole, let sit overnight, dump out in the morning - much better.
Hair stripper: add a bit (½ tsp) to your hand with the shampoo. This helps to get rid of product build up in your hair, makes it nice and shiny.
VINEGAR
Hair: use as a final rinse, if you have oily hair this will help to make it shiny and healthy.
Weeds: Kills weeds in the walkway. Non- toxic, safe for pets and children.
Sore Throat: make a gargle out of salt and warm water, add a tsp of vinegar, will relieve the pain of strep throat and help to kill the strep.
EXTRAS
Biore pore cleansing strips make good sliver pullers; just use a small piece of one, follow the instructions and it should pull the sliver right out. If you haven't any of those, white, multi-purpose glue in a thin layer over the sliver, should peel the sliver out.
If you have strong glue stuck to your skin, a little squirt of wd40 should do the trick. (be sure to wash hands well afterwards).
Chewing gum in the hair? Wd40 lightly sprayed in the hair surrounding the gum should make it comb out, if you prefer, Pam cooking spray would do just as well. Don't have either one? Try using just plain old ice. Freeze the gum - this works awesome on clothing, furniture and carpet and hard surfaces as well.
