Comfortable and personal should accompany a well-organized home since this is the space you use to escape as well as the space you use to celebrate big days, important moments, and the things that give you pleasure all while making it easy to find what you want. As American’s, we waste so much time looking for items we own but can’t find and we bring home more things we don’t know how to use or where to put it. Looking around the room, you probably have the same idea I have about mine. I can’t turn this into something organized, but it’s not to hard.
Begin with taking the time to de-clutter and organize a room, this takes about one day per each room. Some rooms might take a couple days to be able to reorganize. Also, partner up with a friend who will help you, and then you can help her. Partnering up will give you extra support, someone to tell you when you really don’t need an items, and you can talk your way through a possible boring and stressful task.
After setting aside the time and finding a friend, you need to remember to have a plan before you jump into reorganizing. Look at the space you have, your needs, and the habits you have. If you are looking at a small hall closet, look at how much space is in the closet. Move to looking at what you need for the closet is as well as the habits you have close to the closet. Is it just to store crafts or is it close to the door for coats? Don’t go out right way and buy a bunch of boxes or bins for it, because it will just complicate the situation. Think about what you really need to get and what you have that you can already use.
Follow this with the popular sort and purge by looking at what you have, what you need, and what needs to get rid of. What you decide to get rid of needs to be sorted into what goes in the trash and what can be given away. A good way to decided what needs to be given away is everything you haven’t used in six months or more. Everything you are not going to get rid of need to be grouped by task or activity. Everything needed for crafts needs to stay together while everything that needs to be stored should be grouped together.
After you have decided what is staying and what is grouped together, now take the time to look at what storage you have and what kind of storage you need. Then take the well earned time to shop for your boxes, bins, baskets, and hangers for what you need.
Setting aside the time, hooking up with a friend, and tackling reorganization with a plan will help you to clear out all the unwanted and unneeded clutter from your home. An organized home will help you to feel more relaxed by easing the tension of finding items to making it easier to clean knowing where everything belongs. So take a deep breath and dig into what will help decrease your stress.
