Battle of the Carpet Cleaners

Experiment on which carpet cleaner is the best. Tells what my results were for three cleaners.

I have done an experiment about which carpet cleaner is the best to use when you spill something and you need a quick clean up. The experiment was very simple and can be done by anyone. So if you need to know which is the best carpet cleaner to use than this is the paper for you.

Problem/Purpose:

In this experiment I would like to find out which carpet cleaner will clean red Hawaiian Punch out of carpet the best. The whole purpose of the experiment is for those stay at home moms and their children who have those accidental spills throughout the day. These mothers don't need there carpet stained because they didn't get the best cleaner. When they have these spills they need to know what kind of cleaner would clean the best. Out of the cleaners, Awesome, Bissell, and Woolite, I will discover which one cleans the best.

Hypothesis:

I believe that the cleaner Awesome will clean the best because it is the only one that says it will clean anything washable. If they are so confident in there product it must be pretty good. This is what I believe will happen.

Materials:

  • Short plush style carpet
  • Razor blade/knife
  • Sharpie
  • Paper
  • Pencil
  • Hawaiian Punch(red color)
  • Awesome(carpet cleaner)
  • Bissell(carpet cleaner)
  • Woolite(carpet cleaner)
  • Clock
  • Measuring (anything that will measure 1½ tsp)
  • Dry Washcloth

Procedures:

  1. Gather all your materials
  2. Cut piece of carpet (8½ in. thick 1ft 9½in. long with stain guard)
  3. Label the carpet A,B,C and the cleaners with corresponding A,B,C
  4. Pour 1½ TSP of Hawaiian Punch into a measuring cup
  5. Now pour it in the section carpet you labeled A on the carpet let the punch soak into the carpet for five(5) minutes
  6. Now spray cleaner A on the punch and let penetrate for four(4) minutes
  7. Now begin to scrub the carpet with a rag
  8. Repeat two(2) more times with cleaner A
  9. now change the rag you used
  10. Now repeat steps four (4) - eight (8) with cleaner B
  11. Now repeat steps four (4) - eight (8) with cleaner C

Analysis:

In my experiment the cleaner Awesome really did clean the best out of all three. The Bissell cleaned well but it was slightly more visible than Awesome. The Woolite cleaned pretty good but not as good as Awesome. After analyzing my results, the Awesome is the cleaner that should be used.

Conclusion:

In conclusion, my hypothesis was accepted. This is because I said the Awesome would clean the best and it did just as I said. The Bissell did okay but not as well as the Awesome. The Woolite did well too but not as good as Awesome. In my final conclusion, the experiment was a success.

Table:

Type of cleanerAwesomeBissell Woolite
Trial one(1)Not noticeable Not noticeableSlightly visible
Trial two(2)Slightly visibleSlightly visibleMore visible
Trial three(3)Slightly visibleMuch more visibleMuch more visible

Additional Info:

MV: This would be the three types of cleaners

RV: This would be which one gets the stain out the best

Three (3) constants:

  • The types of bottles you use (spray bottles)
  • The type of carpet
  • How much punch you put on the carpet

Control group:

The control group in this experiment would be a piece of carpet you do nothing to so you can compare.
