Use some baking soda and a wet cloth to remove bug and tar from your car. Works like magic and wipes right off. Done it for years and it has never harmed the paint.

pour ~1 cup into your slow running drain, and then pour in vinegar. I usually sue a quart or more of vinegar but my sister says only a cup(the drians run freer when I do it :P)

It's on the side of every box of Arm & Hammer, but it bears repeating: it makes a fantastic antacid, with some very memorable burps :)

I'm surprised nobody's mentioned how an equal amount of baking soda and enough water to form a stiff paste turns your ordinary nose candy into smokable freebase.

the baking soda will neutralize acidic bee sting, but it won't do much for wasp sting which is basic

use it to accelerate the curing of super glue. Just watch out because it gets HOT. It might work to dilute a little BS in water and spray on the super glue.

Its also great for keeping away evil monkeys. Been using the stuff for years and have yet to ever see an evil monkey.

When diluted with water if can also be sprayed on plants to keep away fungii.

So if you see those yukky white formations on your plants just get a bit of soda in water and spray on!

My body has a bad reaction to the chemicals used in deodorant, so I use a little baking soda and water instead. Works great, as I believe the article implies, better than regular deodorants.

Um, think for a minute. What happens when you mix baking soda and vinegar? It rapidly expands to many times it's original volume. Basic chemistry. So, if you got gas from eating a food high in vinegar (like chili), a glass of water mixed with baking soda might just rupture your stomach.

Come on, if you ingest baking soda in water into an already acidic environment like you your stomach with an opening which is not gas tight (at both ends) al thats gonna happen is that you will burb, loudly! ever really burn some food really bad and the pot is crusted black on bottom? scrub out lightly to get most of non burned food out, put an inch of h2o then sprinkle 1/4 c or so in there and let sit for 1-2 days. come right off without scrubbing hours

I use it for building balsa model planes !! Put a drop of "Super Glue" down and then drop a pinch of baking soda on top and it instantly goes ROCK hard ! Makes nice strong joints !

You forgot it is the SAME thing that is used to control alkalinity in a swimming pool. Alkalinity Increaser = sodium bicarbonate, 100%. The only difference is that the food grade has a finer texture. The chemical is EXACTLY the same thing.

I heard baking soda is good for posionivy.

This is too funny, last night I woke up with a really bad rash in the inside of my knee. Figured out it was probably poison ivy. It's 5am and I can't get back to sleep, and know better than to start itching it, so I go downstairs, Google "poison ivy relief", and find an article about mixing vinegar and backing soda together and scouring the rash with it. I tried it, and it worked really well. I had to laugh when this article showed up in my del.icio.us feed!

Baking soda should never be used to apply on face. common sense guys, if that soda can used to clean toilet seat stains or clothe stains, think what affect can it have ,if applied on face. Seriously.

Actually, there is only one end of your body that the gas would come out of - the baking soda would have to get down all the way to your colon before reacting for gas to come out as a fart, which is really unlikely. But the burping sure helps, and I'm feeling the effects right now. Great, especially when you have no tums around.

I read somewhere that for children that hold their bowel movements in, you can sprinkle like 1/4 of baking soda in the running bath water and it is supposed to relax the muscles used to hold the bowls in. i tried to to my daughter and i dont know if it worked of if it was coincidence.

I use baking soda for heart burn all the time it makes the heartburn go away instantly and really helps you need to take about a teaspoon and drink a g;ass pf water.

I used baking soda to clean & refresh my car carpet, then vacuumed it. But the air conditioning leaked over a period of time, and whatever residue of baking soda was left, is now concreted into the carpet fibers. Tried hot water, but still not coming out. Can't find any solvent for this on Internet. Any suggestions?

To get the baking soda out of your carpet:
pour a little club soda, throw on a white towel
get on your tippy toes and twist your feet.
This will pull the baking soda (and stain) out of the carpet.

And yes baking soda does kill ants. Chemical free too!
Mix it with icing sugar and water into a paste and leave out.
This way you won't be worried if you have small kids or pets around.

"do not put it on you face"? I dont understand that remark/warning that was made above because if it is safe to eat something (like baking soda) then it is harmless to you body. Ive used it on my face for a week now, it does not hurt, my face is not red and it does not feel like my face is riping apart.

what proportion of water do I use with the baking soda to get out a dog urine stain????? and do I add some vinegar??? what mixture is best??? a paste?? and do I leave it on overnight or rinse it off right away??? My daughter was house/dog sitting for me for a month....and the whole time my chihuahua, Charlie, was peeing on my new berber carpet up in the loft, on all the chair and table legs, during the night!!! Yah im using a pinch of baking soda mixed with my cetaphil cleanser on my face...i have very oily skin and it is working at least for now..

Its also good for taking hair spray build-up out of your hair.
Wash hair, rinse, sprinkle a little in the palm of your hand, add a little water to make a paste, and rub in your hair; rinse and use your regular conditioner. Just make sure you do\'nt mix it with shampoo or conditioner. Causes a chemical smell. Other than that it works really great for hair spray build-up and for greasy hair.
It does work great on your face; especially for acne. Smooth skin, and I did not notice any redness.

why dont you use a sand paper on your face instead of baking soda??? i mean, "arm & hammer" "colgate" and other brands use Baking soda to polish your teeth so.....

I have used baking soda on my face for years now. It helps control my zits. I think it changes the ph of my skin or something. No harm done to my face, it\'s as smooth as silk

If you have an aquarium and the ph is really high (in the yellow), put small amts of BS in the tank and it will bring the PH down. No need to purchase PH down chemicals. I have been doing it for years. DONT OVER DO IT !!

Sunshine...I don't know about "erasing" forehead lines. But, I am 49 an am fairly lineless! Try this: Use the BS as an exfoliant on your forehead. If you are worried about it stripping oils out put something like Olive oil, or an E oil that has other oil to thin it first. Wet, apply BS and scrub for a bout 30 seconds. Use Apple cider vinegar as a toner, then use a vit, E based moisturizer. You will probably notice that at first it will look dry, while dead skin cells get sloughed off. But it is safe to do this as often as you want.

Hi, just tried the exfoliating thing on my face, reddened a little, nothing drastic. I think if you made the paste TOO thick, it would probably burn. But, after I rinsed my face, I just slapped on some moisturizer and it felt fine!! Hoping it will help with my large pores.

I have been reading about using it for acne and washed my face with it about an hour ago. I have really oily AND dry, itchy, red, acne-prone skin at 32 yrs. of age. My face was feeling like a train wreck all day and now after using the baking soda it feels calmed and cool. So far...
I will continue to use it as long as it can make my face feel this much better.
I also use BS and peroxide to whiten my teeth.

Baking soda has many good qualities, I know I take it when I have indigestion and works immediattely.

Kiwikatnz, I haven't hear of using it for toenail fungus, but wouldn't rule it out. I made a reference to a site once before, you should check it out. Earthclinic.com. If it can be used for this you will find the information there. Just find the search prompt and either put in toenail fungus, or baking soda, and you will get your results. Good luck. I'm sure you will find a cure. The main one that comes to my mind is soaking your foot/feet in epsom salt.

yes I have tried BS as a toothpaste and i have also tried it as an antacid and it works like a charm. Promise myself to try it as an exfoliant I believe it will work.

I've used baking soda on my face for the past 15 yrs. You need to add just a tsp or less to a washcloth along with your cleanser in the shower. Gently massage onto skin and rinse well. I am an esthetician and know what works...this does. It's an excellent exofoliator and will keep you skin smooth, fresh and blemish free.

For those who had bad reactions to the baking soda... are you sure you didn't use baking powder instead? Or maybe you didn't make it into a thin paste first. I think you just used it wrong. I use it and I have baby soft, beautiful skin with no acne! And no irritations either.

Ok for all the idiots who know nothing and I mean absolutley nothing about facial care let me tell you from someone who has tried everything from oils to different kinds of foods to every facial cleanser on the planet , baking soda does work , I reapeat it does work and better than the dumb synthetic chemicals which you put on your face, the thing is that you don't make it into a scrub(paste) whatever , you mix a 1/4 of a teaspoon in 8 ounces of water pour some in your hand and wash your face with it , if you ,find that it is still to drying than mix less , if it feels like it's not enough use more but it is non abrasive in this way because it is a watered solution

I don't think Baking Soda will do that, try dawn dish soap.

A teaspoon of bakin soda with a cup of warm water. Try to use them to wash your sinus if you have a bad allergy problem. It works for me. But make sure you as your doctor first.
