10 Amazing Uses for Cold Coffee

Has your coffee gone cold again? Don't throw it away, it might be useful.

When your pot of coffee is cold and you are about to make some more, don't throw the liquid and grounds away. They could come in useful.

  1. A small amount of coffee grounds mixed into the top soil around house plants acts as a fertiliser
  2. Coffee can be used to cover light scratch marks on a wooden surface. Adjust the strength to get the right shade, or keep adding another drop, or two until the colour matches.
  3. Sprinkle coffee to deter ants
  4. Rinse red hair with coffee to give a glistening, healthy look to the hair
  5. Place a bowl of dried coffee grounds at the back of he refrigerator. It will work as a deodorizer.
  6. Leftover coffee will clean a grill with very little effort. It's the acid in it that does he job.
  7. Add a teaspoon of strong coffee to spaghetti sauce. It adds colouring and makes the sauce less acidic. This is a good idea if you are using store bought spaghetti sauce.
  8. A mixture of orange peel and coffee grounds spread around plants will keep cats off your plants
  9. Add dried coffee grounds to carrot seeds before sowing. This protects against some pests and gives a better crop,
  10. If you have a real fire, spread the ashes with wet coffee grounds before taking them out. This stops the dust going everywhere.

Cold coffee can also be used to make red-eye gravy. After frying a slice of ham, pour off almost all of the grease (except for tablespoon). Pour in the cold coffee (cup or so) and bring to boil in frying pan. Simmer couple minutes. Use as gravy over rice or creamed potatoes.

Coffee is NOT high-acid. It's actually quite close to neutral on the pH scale. #6 may work, but it's not because of the acid level in coffee.

In #6 the acid in the coffee is strong enough to clean the grill, but in #7 coffee makes spaghetti sauce less acidic. Doesn't sound right to me.
