We all know that all things get dirty. We are also fed up of this problem of things getting dirty. But, have you ever given a thought that:
Why things get dirty?
Why can't the dirt stay quietly at its place?
Why is it that the dirt has to travel to all the places?
Even I was thinking on it for quite a long time. I was thinking about the possible scientific explanation which can explain me the reason.
But, finally I got the help from the second law of thermodynamics.
The second law of thermodynamics state that the entropy of the universe is always increasing.
Now entropy is the degree of randomness. Now, higher is the entropy higher is the degree of randomness.
Now, randomness increase with increase in volume, temperature or number of molecules and with decrease in pressure.
Now, if sand is kept in one liter bottle then it will have lesser entropy than the same amount of sand kept in a two liter bottle. This is because in two liter bottle the volume available for sand to move is much more than the volume available for the sand to move in 1 liter bottle.
Similar is the concept applied to dirtying of things. Now, if dust is present just on the surface of earth, then it will have lesser entropy. But when it get onto the other things say, clothes, vehicles etc. then it get more surface hence making its entropy to increase.
Now, since making an increase in entropy is favorable due to second law of thermodynamics. Therefore, dirtying of things is favorable in nature.
