It isn't always the big changes that make life easier. Here are ten tips I have come across that either make my life easier or cheaper.
Bed Linens
Place the complete set of duvet cover, sheet and pillowcases inside one of the pillowcases when you launder them. This saves you hunting for the matching set. I can't believe I didn't think of it before.Vinegar
Vinegar and warm water must surely be a miracle worker; it cleans just about everything from limescale on shower curtains to bright shiny windows and leaves them without streaks.Face Cleanser and Toner
Save bundles of cash by simply wetting the cotton wool before you put cleanser or toner on it. If it is dry, you will use more cleanser or toner as the cotton will absorb quite a bit.Earrings
Use a cork notice-board and coloured pins to hang your earrings. This makes a colourful display and makes it easy to find a complete pair exactly when you want them.Condiments
If like me you end up with pepper, salt or herb dustings in your cupboard, wash out an ice cream carton (having enjoyed the ice cream first of course) and use this to hold them. Not only does it save mess, it makes it much easier to put your hand on exactly what you need every time.Beans and Pulses
Don't waste money buying cans of beans, instead buy a bag of dried ones, cook the whole lot, and then divide into portion sizes and freeze. This way not only are you sure there are no chemicals involved, but you have handy sized portions to add to your cooking whenever you want.Oil Bottles
Place your olive oil or vegetable oil bottle in a small food bag. This stops drips into your cupboards.Storage Boxes
Ask your local library or museum for their old archive boxes. Places like hospitals and Record Offices dealing with large amounts of records are always getting rid of boxes. They are a perfect size for lifting. Use then to line a large shelved cupboard. You can then store anything and everything, they look so much neater than a jumble and you can find whatever you need instantly.Ready-Cooked Meals
Instead of buying expensive (and processed) meals, make your own. Cook double the quantity when preparing a meal, you can eat half then and freeze the other half for a handy healthy meal later.Cat Litter
Add a sprinkle of baking soda to the tray after cleaning to absorb odours.
I'm sure everyone has their own favourites and I would love to hear about them.
