The Dangers of the Choking Game

This is a game played by children and teens alike. It's the self-suffocation or self-asphyxiation-choking of each other until the person passes out and then revived.

This act causes hypoxia, shortage of oxygen supply to the brain. Causing brain damage cases like Chelsea Dunn-death, permanent or cumulative death of large number of brain cells. It an also cause seizures, retinal damage and stroke.

The funny but dangerous thing is that this game has been given a wide variety of names like funky chicken cracker rating, blackout, flat liner, Indian head rush, pass out game, just to mention but a few. Personal expositions done by rehabilitated kids shows that teenagers do it because amongst them, they feel its cool, or for the high which can become very addictive because, unlike drugs, the feeling goes on for hours. They continue to indulge in this game not minding the consequences or out of ignorance. This game is more dangerous when don by a lone child. This is because, when the kid passes out, there might be no body around to revive him or her.

Now this where the parents come in. Signs used to know if your kid is involved in this act is blood shot eyes, unusual marks and sometimes complaint of headache. Parents have to let this kids know that this is no game, its dangerous. At some certain stage in life, teens make some decisions not minding the consequences and effect to their lives. Help them understand that, their decisions in life can affect them and others. Even when it seems like you are taking away their freedom of making decision, lay some boundaries about decision taking.

Others ways that you can use to keeping you kids free from risk taking decisions is proving and letting them know that you are always available for them anytime and they can always run to you when they find things difficult. Avoid being too busy when the child is trying to pass a message to you.

Trying creating a private time with your kids because they tend to speak more when there is no body around.

Not only talking to you kids, but also kid around you and their parents, making them see the dangers their kids puts themselves into. Creating much awareness as possible will go a long way in curbing this dangerous game.

Putting all these technique together, you would be making a great impact in the prevention of taking risky decision among teens and kids.
