I had wondered how I could save on my electric bill and it seemed straightforward to me, why not solar power. I watch television about two hours every day and thought well what have I have to lose. I have a car battery on my balcony so on my trip to the local wal mart. Purchased a solar battery charger, it ran about $20.00. It has a safety precaution build into it that it cannot overcharge the battery. Here is my source of electricity the car battery and my means of freely keeping it charged, but how to use it? Therefore, off shopping to my local wal mart and sure enough there was my answer. An inverter for powering small electric devices, that seemed interesting, so for about $40.00 purchased an inverter. The inverter connects to the battery and you plug in what you want to use to the inverter. The inverter like the solar panel has a safety device in place.
However, unlike the solar panel the inverter shuts down when the current from the battery starts to run low to avoid hurting the battery, fantastic. Therefore, there in front of me is the solar panel that keeps the battery charged and an inverter to plug in so that I can actually use this power. I have a twenty-seven inch television and a DVD, so guess what, I plug it in and sure enough, I am watching television for two hours without having to use up any hydro from my normal household outlet. It worked no issues on how the television worked and for the past year now, I have not used any hydro other than from my own source while watching television. Now I do not know how much money I have saved on hydro but so far, for about $60.00 for the year it has not cost my any money on hydro to watch TV. Now I do not think it would be a good idea to use a car battery, there are batteries out there for this sole purpose, and have found them to start out at about twice the price of a car battery. In addition, I would say it would be a very good idea to get professional advice on doing this first. All I know is that is works for me.
