Home Inspection and Safety

Ensuring that properties are properly maintained and safety practices are adhered to.

Before you and your family go to bed at night and leave in the morning to work or play, check the building properly. A door could have been left open at the back of the building, which could cause a thief to enter your home and vandalize your property. No one needs that type of stress, to have to come home and meet your place all ransacked.

An opportunist could be waiting down the street for you to leave your home. They seem to know where to walk, and to get into your building. They know how to go through a place stealing things and usually destroying or spoiling everything in your home. Try not to make the mistake of leaving your home unattended.

Turn off the stove burners and oven knobs. You could be in a hurry to go out the door, and forget that the stove was not turned off. Water could have been boiling on the stove for you to get some coffee, but the time was ticking away and you had to leave. The last thing on your mind was a mouth full of coffee. It's only when you would have been on your way to work or play, it struck you that you had not eaten anything, and that the kettle was still on the fire.

Check your home for bees that could be building their nests in the eaves of your house, or a tree close by, and insects such as spiders and centipedes could be living in your homes. Do not give them a chance to develop and get out of control; but by applying a daily building inspection of your home, these creatures will not stand a chance of surviving.

An electrical outlet is a dangerous thing if it is not properly maintained. If the cover is broken, have it replaced as soon as possible. Outlets should have covers to prevent children from pushing wires and other objects into the sockets. Electrical outlets should not be installed close to a water supply, but be in a secure area of the house.

After watering the pot of flowers outside of the window make sure that the lock is fastened properly. You could use a bit of machine oil to free up the latch. Check the window slide for a smooth operation, sliding it up and down, if the window is a sash, or swinging it in and out if otherwise.
