10 Ways to Lower Your Heating Bill

Find out how to stay warm during those chilly nights and possibly save some money on your heating bill.

Some people never realize all the money that goes towards heating can be better used for other things. For example, gifts for the Holidays, that new gaming system you've wanted, or just to have some spare cash on you. Here are some ways to lower your heating bill, or just some ways to stay warm.

  1. Check your Doors

I'm serious, go check them now. Well, only the ones that lead in or outside your house. If you feel down the crack in between the door and its frame, you might feel a slight breeze of cold air rushing through. You want to plug that up. Use folded pieces of paper, or anything else you want. If you don't use that door much (front door perhaps), you can use duct tape or masking tape to cover it. Don't forget to check the bottom and top of your doors as well.
  2. Turn it Down

When not in the house, it is best to turn your heat down a couple degrees. Depending on whether you have a pet or not, I would turn it down 3-4 degrees Celsius.
  3. Wear Clothes

Hopefully, you are doing this as you read this article. If not, I suggest you put some on. If you are, put some more on and turn your heating down a little.
  4. Blankets!

Similar to number 3. More blankets = Less heating.
  5. Drink Something Warm

Drinking something warm is one of the quickest ways to heat your self up a bit. Make some coffee or hot chocolate. If you're not a fan of those, boil some water and make tea.
  6. Cuddle

For all you women out there who want a little cuddling, use the cold as an excuse. If you're single, cuddle with a pet. You can even cuddle a pillow.
  7. Check Your Vents

Close the ones that are in rooms that aren't used frequently. Close that room's doors as well. This will stop air circulation a bit, preventing heat loss.
  8. Wear a Hat

The head is where a large percentage of heat is lost from.
  9. Cook

Steam from food will moisten the air, making the room feel a bit warmer.
  10. Get Active

Exercise or move around. It produces body heat, and is good to stay in shape.

I hope you enjoyed and use some of these tips. Stay warm!
