Clocks were advanced one hour this weekend and I hope you're not finding it out from my blog. With this responsibility, comes the dreaded spring cleaning of the garden, home and car. This is the time people think most about traveling, buying a new home, shopping for a new car, changing careers, renovating their homes and cleaning out their garage.
One of the biggest trends in improving the home is renovating the basement. New trends in basement living suggests that people are no longer thinking about increasing the number of bedrooms in the house or making the basement into another suite. People are realizing that they are not fully utilizing the guest room; having it made up all year long only to use it for a weekend when guests come and stay with you. (Most guests of the courteous kind, only stay as long as the time it takes for fish to smell, which is about three days.)
People are converting their guest rooms to upstair offices, setting up shop for their online business. This makes it easily accessible for nights when they can't sleep.
For basements, homeowners are now more health-conscious about their time away from work. They are beginning to think more leisure and relaxation. Instead of using their basements for wine cellars, storage and discos, people are installing spas and retreats in their home fully equipped with saunas, jacuzzis, massage chairs and meditation rooms. Replacing the disco lamps and mirror balls are candles and soft music to set the ambiance.
With the rising gas prices, people are beginning to appreciate staying home more often and enjoying the equity in their home. They worked hard along the way and now is the time to kick back and enjoy their savings.
