Using a Radial Arm Saw

It's more dangerous than a drunk man with a bow and arrow.

About forty years ago I was using a radial arm saw cutting a thin board to size. Suddenly the small piece that should have been against the fence had disappeared. I looked behind me wondering where it went. On a shelf behind me was one of the old square metal tea boxes, about a foot square and high. The blade on the radial arm had caught the sliver of wood and sent it like an arrow through the metal box. Had I been standing in line with the blade that sliver of wood probably would have gone through my side. That taught me a lesson; never stand in line with a radial arm saw, always a bit to the left; you never know, it might be out to get you.
