Super Teen Room Decorating Ideas

One of the most interesting types of rooms to decorate is that of teenagers. Teen room decorating ideas can reflect the developing person in a way that can't be done with a younger child.

Because your teen is not yet fully confirmed in a path for life, it's important to choose furniture and designs which don't force them into a parental preconceived mold, yet provide some structure to the choices they make.

Take the personality of the teen into consideration by choosing colors and shapes which they prefer, but teen room decorating ideas should include assumption of space for certain basic activities which still must occur each day. For example, if your teenager is expected to do homework in the room, an area should be set aside for that activity. If your son or daughter has friends who regularly spend time in the room, providing a place where several teens can sit or lounge is helpful.

Certainly teen room decorating ideas should include adequate storage and display space. Your teen's hobbies and activities will determine the type of space and furnishings needed for a library of books, CDs, DVDs, or software. Considering so many teenagers today spend extensive time on a computer, a computer workstation including seating and adequate lighting is of primary importance.

Since spending time to "clean your room" is low on the priority list of most teenagers, teen room decorating ideas should begin to prepare him or her for the necessity of picking up and putting away once they are on their own by making that task as easy as possible. A closet organizer is a giant step in that direction.

One other area which many people ignore when looking for teen room decorating ideas is the importance of air space. Consider placing a loft bed up near the ceiling of the room and making other use of the valuable floor space underneath for storage, a computer desk area, or study area.

Overall, the most important aspect to be considered in thinking about decorating ideas for your teen's room is to involve them in the process as much as possible. The cleverest designs, colors and space utilization means nothing if your teenager hates it. A prime example is the use of bold, imaginative colors in reds and golds when your daughter is a blue and silver person. Keep in mind that although the teen may be spending lots of time in their personal haven now, this will change as they eventually go out on their own, so any elements used in decorating don't have to be there forever.
