Here are a few suggestions to help prevent mold growth in your bathroom:
- Removing carpets will stop dampness from laying around: Use flooring that doesn't hold moisture and use a bath mat for standing on when getting out of the tub or shower. Bath mats can be hung to dry and flooring such as tile, wood, or ceramic can be wiped up easily.
- Use your vent fan and if you don't have one, one should be installed: Opening a bathroom window will blow most of the moisture back into the room and in the cold winter this can cause more condensation.
- Also, condensation can build up on the inside of the bathroom window freezing it shut.
- If your ventilation problem is bad invest in a dehumidifier: It will pull the moisture out of the air preventing condensation build up on cold tile and porcelain surfaces in the bathroom.
- Many people like to keep tropical potted plants in the bathroom because they thrive on humidity. Remove them. The moist soil is a breeding ground for mold spores and fungus.
- Check for leaks: Even the smallest constant leaks can cause great damage.
- Keep an eye on all silicon seals: If they are discolored from mold they should be replaced and check for mold behind old silicon before replacing.
