To avoid a lopsided arrangement of pictures on your wall, and a lot of needless holes, one practical solution is to use the floor as the "wall" as you decide which arrangement pleases you most. The steps are easy when taken in this order.
- Determine the size of the wall space you wish to fill. Use a tape measure or yardstick.
- Mark the same size space on the floor, directly below the wall selected. Use coins or other small objects to mark the corners.
- Lay the picture frames on the floor space. Shuffle the arrangement around to see more than one combination.
- Once you've decided on the arrangement, turn the pictures over. This permits you to see exactly where the picture hangers and wires are located.
- On the wall, measure the exact location for the picture hooks, from right to left and top to bottom, and hammer them firmly but gently in place. To prevent chipping place small pieces of sticking tape where the nail will be inserted.
- Do select one picture as the focal point and arrange the other pictures around it.
- Do place the pictures in logical order if they tell a story.
- Don't place larger pictures on top of smaller ones in a way that makes the arrangement seem top heavy.
- Avoid strong sunlight or other sources of heat.
- Don't place pictures with small print captions in places where they will be difficult to read.
