How to Care for Hardwood Floors

Tips about how to care for hardwood floors.

Hard wood flooring is an ideal choice for flooring as it is economical and it looks good too. But taking enough care is the most important thing you have to do when you have wooden flooring in your house. Taking enough care regularly keeps the flooring beautiful and shining. Some tips to take for maintaining a beautiful hard wood floor are

Sweep the floor regularly with a soft and fine bristled broom. Don't use hard bristled brooms as they cause scratches on the floor. Use a vacuum cleaner to remove the dust and dirt particles. Do it at least once a week. You may not see with your eye but there might be dust particles deposited in between the flooring tiles. Don't rely on your eyes solely. Vacuuming regularly removes these particles well.

Don't ever use water to clean the flooring and to that fact don't at least let any water drops spill on the flooring. If any water spills on the flooring accidentally gently remove them with a soft towel. Water causes the flooring to lose it's texture.

Ironically, water mixed with wood cleaner works great for cleaning the wood flooring. This is considered as the best way of cleaning wooden flooring and this process is called damp mopping. You have to mix a wood cleaner and water and you have to (half) wet the mop and clean the flooring.

Avoid walking on the wooden floors by wearing heavy boots and high heeled shoes. They may cause dent on the floor. Never ever drag furniture on the flooring. You can just lift it and place wherever you want. It is a good habit and it applies to any type of flooring.

If all the cleaning methods fail to keep the texture of the flooring intact, go for waxing. There are products available in the market for this job and it keeps the floor's beauty alive. But read the instructions on the pack before using it.

Arrange a door mat at the entrance of the room. This avoids any dirt or dampness carried by the shoes affect the flooring.

Use curtains and blinds for the windows and close them in day times. Direct exposure of the wood flooring to sun rays affects the color and texture of the flooring.

Use carpets at the areas in which you gather the most or walk most. This helps in avoiding any damage that may occur to those areas. Besides this, using beautiful carpets enhance the look of these areas.

By following these steps you can be sure of maintaining the hard wood flooring well. Though following all the steps seem difficult, you can afford to spend half an hour a day for home making.
