You can go for abstract paintings on the wall and you just need to splash a mix of colors and this gives an artistic look to your living room. It is a better idea to use if you don't want to hang portraits or painting frames in your room.
Thinking in a creative way and giving the walls of your living room a creative look is a very good option as you don't need to follow any pattern in this case and you just need to use your creativity to paint, it is not a bad option altogether. But don't try to be over creative by painting every inch of your room in a different way. Limit your creativity to only one wall of the room.
