Aquarium Decoration Styles: Realistic or Fake

Designing your home aquarium is a task that involves a lot more personal style and taste than people may think.

Designing your home aquarium is a task that involves a lot more personal style and taste than people may think. Whether you are trying to recreate a natural habitat for your fish, or add a stylish moving sculpture to your room, you will use aquarium decorations. This article covers some pros and cons about using realistic or fake-looking decor styles.

Aquarium Decoration: Realistic Looks Good

The best thing about using realistic looking aquarium decorations is that you will have a real ecosystem in your home. Using natural materials such as live plants and rocks provide optimal environment for your fish. They will also appreciate the inclusion of live plants and tanin-leeching drift wood.

Aquarium Decoration: Fake Looks Good

Using fake looking aquarium decorations, such as turquoise plastic plants, neon coral castles and mermaid figurines, is that you can tailor the aquarium to your precise tastes or room decor. If your room is pink, you can include pink aquarium decorations. If you like black and white, you can find things in those colors.

Aquarium Decoration: Realistic Looks Bad

There are arguments against using realistic looking fish tank decorations. For one, the colors are rather subdued and, some may say, boring. For those who enjoy aquariums but are not gung ho about nature, the browns and greens may not excite. Realistic aquarium decorations may also clash with your home if you have ultra modern decor.

Aquarium Decoration: Fake Looks Bad

Fish tank as ecosystem purists balk at neon plastic plants and fake style aquarium decorations. They could also argue that the fish will be disturbed by the inclusion of things not otherwise found in nature. Choosing fake style aquarium decorations is a personal choice.

We used to have an aquariuam and I didn't think much about the decoration, but they were fake. Changeing the water, and cleaning was what I thought about. What a job! I loved having the fish tho.
