Online Entrepreneurship: My Story

The true life story of how a woman's quest for home based income generation led her to tumble into a no win situation on the net.

A couple of months ago I dived into the deep end of unemployment by quitting the only profession that I ever knew how to handle, teaching. I resigned from the school I had been working with since the last eight years with the idea of striking out independently into the mighty ocean of internet related entrepreneurship!

I rolled up my sleeves, upgraded my internet connection and set out, enthusiastically, to explore and discover, for myself, the highly hyped world of money making from the comforts of my home!

My daily newspaper advised me to "visit Seekluck.com to learn about home based self-employment and income opportunities”.

Eagerly surfing the site, my hungry eyes fell, almost immediately, on a link that promised quick, easy and fool proof profits from visiting certain sites, posting advertisements, receiving responses to it and feeding in (data entry) the emails of the respondents I thought that that sounded simple enough and , without further thought, hastened to make an online payment of Rs. 2000/, which was the specified price for joining the organization. It should be mentioned here that they even promised to reimburse the money if I found it did not work for me.

Being determined to give it all I had, I worked diligently on my new project for a month before I realized that every single email address that I fed in was being rejected as “ data already exists”. Try as I may, the result remained constant - “data already exists”!

After spending innumerable hours trying to comprehend where I was going wrong, it hit me that this was just a spam. They became two grand richer and I, well, I was poorer than poor ,not only in terms of money, but in the huge amount of time and effort that I had sent down the make-easy-money drain.

As for reimbursement! They had the last laugh there too! Of course they were not going to return their wage of sin! My pleas fell on deaf ears. This company called PLIMUS, which, supposedly, works for support2@thehomeworker.org, taught me, most effectively, not to put my trust in anything that spells “EASY”.
