Wildflowers are God's gift to the universe. They are free and they look stuning in a garden setting.
Rule No. 1 - do not go into the woods and dig up plants. Wait until they have seeds, then take the seeds and plant them. Transplanting wild flowers is not a good idea. First of all, it depletes the forrest and meadows of flowers for the next season. Secondly, most wild plants do not make it when they are transplanted. You have much better luck with the seeds.
Clear a piece of land where you want your wildflowers to grow. I know some people say just scatter them and watch them grow. It does not work that way for me. I have to clear the piece of ground, dig it up a little to make it more pliable, and then I scatter them and cover them with just a small bit of soil. I am surprised the next year with the crop of wildflowers that I get. They do not require a bunch of tender loving care, just a watering every now and then, when Mother Nature does not do it. They are wonderful to be used in flower arrangements. They tend to make a bare piece of ground look like a beautiful panarama of color.
If you really want to get into wildflower gardening, purchase a book which identifies all of the flowers. It is amazing the number of species that are living and blooming around your area.
