The water gardens are either made by a man or could have been created by nature. The different types of water ponds include containers, man-made ponds, natural ponds, wild rivers and bogs. They not only do have plants but also some fishes and other aquatic species. They often contain rocks, waterfalls because of the rocks, watercourses, statuary and fountains. This combination gives the water garden a pleasant appearance and if often used in motion pictures.
The rocks are often present in a river which flows fast. The height of rock is properly chosen to create a waterfall. This arrangement helps reside oxygen inside the water for fishes and prevents Hypoxia. More number of bubbles in the river represent more oxygen for the aquatic species.
In a water garden, three types of plants can grow. Submerged plants are completely inside the water such as water lily and parrot feather. Floating plants are those which do not have roots touching the ground but simply float on the surface of water and grow magnanimously. Mosquito ferns, water spangle and water clover come into this category. The marginal plants are those which are partially submerged and partially grow outside water. Flag, Taro and Arrowhead belong to this category. Often algae are found most in the ponds. The floating plants actually shade these algae and stop them from growing.
There are different aquatic species that can grow in a water garden. Goldfish, Ghost Koi, Golden Orfe, Golden Tench, Rosy Red Minnows and Mosquito fish are fish type of aquatic species. Frogs, turtles, snakes, snails, raccoons, domestic cats, etc. can also be found in the water garden. Some of these are predators of fishes and Koi fishes are expensive. This causes troubles for the water gardener.
