The largest flower is the Rafflesia. It has a diameter of almost 1 meter and a thickness of about 2 cm. It weighs about 10 kg. The Rafflesia is a total parasite plant found in Malaysia and Indonesia.
The flower is reddish or orange brown in color. It attracts flies with its stinking odour. That is why it is also called the stinking corpse lily. This plant does not have any stem or leaves. Just a single huge flower!
When the Rafflesia withers, it leaves a sticky, pulpy, decayed mass of seeds. When animals like an elephjant or rhinoceros steps on the sticky pulp, it is unable to remove it.
The animal then wipes its foot on some big root. The seeds which are deposited there then sprout and flower.
The flowers of the Artillery plant are said to be the smallest in the world. Their diameter is only 0.35 mm.
In India the biggest flower is the Sapria, found in Assam in the Assam hills. It has a diameter of 0.3 m.
