Fertilizer
Chicken bones? That's right. Save your carcasses and bones, dry them out and throw into a burlap bag until you have a sufficient amount to crush. Then have at it with a hammer (or let your kids stomp on them).
Late fall is the perfect time to treat your gardening ground with phosphorous and potash from ashes in your fireplace. Save in metal containers and sprinkle liberally over your garden before the snow flies.
Don't throw out that stinky aquarium water! This is an extra special treat for your plants. Filled with tons of minerals.
Make Your Own Compost
Just what goes into compost anyway? Anything natural and biodegradable will work. Coffee grounds, leftover fruits and vegetables, plant cuttings and stalks, mulched up leaves, cut grass, peelings, rinds and eggshells. It's never too late to start a pile. You'll be surprised how fast it grows
Animals Love Veggies Too
If you are plagued with deer, rabbits and other wildlife nibbling on your garden vegetables, plant marigolds all around the border of your garden. They hate the smell.
Gather up all of that brushed out hair from combs and brushes and place in the toe of a pantyhose. When you have gathered a ball about the size of a baseball, tie to a bush or small tree close to your garden. The scent of humans will keep away wildlife.
