I love to go for long walks down the various trails near where I live. The wildflowers along these trails are abundant and beautiful. I started to gather some seeds for the plants that I really liked and planted them in my own garden. Then I got to thinking that maybe there's a market for these seeds. They're hardy and well suited to our climate. As the plants produced seeds I waited patiently for these seeds to ripen and then collected them.
In order to preserve them properly they need to be really dry, although there are some exceptions to this rule such as trilliums.
Once the seeds have been dried and cleaned I package them in envelopes or small Ziplock bags and label them.
I used to sell them on eBay, but have come up with a more cost effective way of selling.
I place ads on free classified sites.
For the last three years I have sold out everything I had. I've added my own vegetable and flower seeds to the wildflowers.
If you are going to get seeds from the wild please make sure to leave enough seeds so the plants will continue to thrive in the wild. You should also check your local laws and by-laws as this is sometimes illegal to do.
You are better off taking a few seeds and growing these plants in your own garden to harvest the seeds.
This is something that is very easy to do. It is also very inexpensive to start up.
In the beginning I used the money I made to purchase seeds and plants that I wanted for my garden. There's very little left that I want for my gardens. I'm not exactly getting rich by doing this. But it's fun and I really enjoy it. And the extra money does help.
To find free classified sites just do an internet search. A lot of these sites even allow you to put up pictures of what you are selling.
I've even kept in touch with some of the gardeners who've bought seeds from me.
This has been a rewarding and profitable experience for me.
