A funnel shaped flower which generally opens in the early morning. The flowers are pollinated by Hummingbirds, bees, and butterflies. This tiny flower has usually died off
by afternoon. Each new day brings new flowers of vast colors. They are found in tropical climates as well as cooler climates.
Morning Glory is the close relative of the Moon Flower which opens up at night and pollinated by moths. Japanese refer to them as asago. A rare brownish colored variant
known as Danjuro.
Morning Glory is used as medicinal purposes in China. The seeds have a laxative quality. These flowers were first cultivated as an ornament in the 9th Century of Japan.
They are good for summer shade because of the twining habit and the flowers. Creeping
stems cause them to spread. Some people in Asian countries use these flowers as a vegetable in cooking. They are often referred as water spinach or swamp cabbage.
