Centrally heated homes provide very dry environments for plants to grow in, so they need the correct amount of water and humidity to thrive. If a plant has instructions with it, these should always be followed and research those without instructions on the internet, or in a gardening book. Grouping plants together helps to form a mini micro climate and improves humidity levels.
There are several common problems that may occur in house-plants. You need to be your own plant doctor in order to spot these problems and rectify them.
Brown Spots On Leaves

These spots can be caused by too much sunlight burning the leaves through water droplets, or they may be caused by fungus. Move the plant out of the sunlight and treat with a fungicide.
Yellowing Leaves

Some plants prefer acid growing conditions and tap water may be too alkaline. This yellowing condition may improve if the plant is watered with distilled water, or even rain water.
Spindly Leaf Growth

Too little sun and too much water, or fertiliser can cause this problem. Moving the plant to a sunnier position and reducing watering may help to encourage sturdier growth.
Leaves Falling

Leaves may fall from a plant quite suddenly if it has been shocked by extreme cold, or heat, or the roots have dried out. Remove the plant from the problem to a more suitable place and keep it watered.
Newly potted plants may lose leaves because they are shocked when they are moved. To minimize this changes in environment should be introduced gradually. If a plant needs re potting only go up one size of pot at a time.
Buds Dropping Off

Irregular watering, being moved to a different position, or a very dry room may cause buds to drop off before they open. To remedy this stand the plant on a bed of pebbles, in a tray of water and spray it with cool water regularly.
Thank you.
