Herb Gardening is an extremely rewarding hobby which is growing very popular these days. Basil is one of the most common herbs grown. Green basil and the "Dark Opal" variety are beautiful additions to any garden and often used as decoration. It's also a popular spice in many dishes such as pastas and sauces. Dark Opal has beautiful light pink flowers and dark red foliage.

Chives are another popular herb in the garden. Chives are similar to onions but with much milder flavor. They grow tall and thin, much like grass. They are very resilient and will thrive in just about any condition. Chives are excellent tossed in just about any dish such as salads, egg dishes, and many different sauces.

Mint is also super easy to grow and is used in mint jellies, mint juleps, desserts, and various drinks. It is also used in many personal care products to rejuvenate. Mint is delightful in the garden because of its unique minty smell.

Other popular herbs to grow are thyme and sage. These herbs are used for flavoring soups, chicken, turkey, pork, and other sausages. Sage also produces beautiful blue spiked flowers. Lavender is probably the most fragrant of all herbs and is often used in candles, perfumes, and bath and body care products. It is known to have calm soothing effect on the mind and body. The light purple flowers smell absolutely amazing. Herbs such as borage, chevril, sweet marjoram, sesame, and dill are also welcomed in the garden for various uses.

Herb gardening allows gardeners to utilize herbs in various ways, from cooking to aesthetics. It is much cheaper to grow them yourself rather than buying them at the store. You're also assured of fresh and chemical free plants. Try growing an herb garden today and reap the benefits.
