You do not have to spend a lot of money having a collection of beautiful orchids by buying expensive soils
and fertilizers. Ordinary potting mix and slow-release fertilizer pellets are just great.
Orchids like to be kept moist most of the time-especially in the summer months.
Pots with a drainage base are necessary though, as the plants do not like to be water-logged.
This way they can draw the water as they need it.
My orchids grow prolifically and multiply readily in large rectangular pots with drainage bases.
The right position is also very important. They must be placed in a cool but not damp nor cold,
position and must be sheltered from hot direct sunlight. However, they enjoy plenty of cool breeze to
refresh them. Against a wall, under the eaves would be ideal.
They can be easily propagated. Just separate the bulbs, leaving some roots attached and keep moist.
Income may be made by selling them in markets or other venues.
