They produce the strongest natural glue known to science, and have some of the most amazing flowers of all carnivorous plants. They grow in numerous sizes, from diner plates to less than a dime, and are often referred to as the “ugly ducklings” of carnivorous plants. Yeah right! Their flowers are among my favorite, and their delicate looking leaves glitter in the sun. And to make things even better, their favorite food is mosquitoes-my least favorite bugs! Butterworts are awesome!!!
Soil:
2:1:1:1 vermiculite, peat, perlite, and long fibered sphagnum moss should suffice for most. Temperate species should do well in 1:1 peat:perlite
Watering:
Make sure to keep butterworts wet but not waterlogged. African violets pots are a good choice.
Light:
Medium to medium strong light should do fine.
Environment:
Since they grow from the arctic circle all the way down to South Africa, with many growing in Mexico and surrounding areas, it is near impossible to keep all the species in one area. Try and keep the temperatures from 60-80, with 50% humidity for maximum species requirements in one area.
Cultivation:
Most (95%) of the pings in cultivation are quite easy if you treat them right.
