12 Easy Steps to Growing Your Own Potatoes

Ok then this is a way which I am trying at the moment and it works great! You can do this anywhere as long as the plant will get plenty of sunlight and rain. There is another plus! You can grow these potatoes without making a mess until you get your potatoes out! So what is this way? Well I'll tell you in steps:

1. First of all before using your potatoes for cooking put 3-5 aside and put them in a warm place
2. After about 2 weeks the potatoes will have “eyes” on the Potato
3. So now get a big grow bag and compost/ soil (unless you have your own) which should be available from garden centres
4. Put some compost into the bag about 4-5 inches deep (so then the bottom of the bag is not visible and there is enough room for the roots)
5. Place 3-5 potatoes at the bottom and then cover over with more compost/ soil so then the potato is no longer visible
6. Give the potatoes some water
7. If it has been hot and sunny then check the grow bag and you might see green shoots (this is the potato plant) to get lots of potatoes, once you see these shoots, cover them with soil and a bit more for them to grow
8. ** If it's continued to be hot remember to water them. **
9. Once you see the shoots again then do number 7 once again
10. Eventually you will get to the top of the grow bag
11. Once you get this you then leave the potato plant to grow. **Continue watering them. **
12. Once the plant is flowering and thriving, feed it with tomato fertiliser, once a week (follow the instructions on the fertiliser)
13. Once the plant turns yellow and shrivels, this means that the potato is getting all the nutrients you can then harvest your potatoes

The great thing about this is that it takes up hardly any room and time. With this method you can have as many grow bags as you want. The potatoes will grow lots in warm, moist conditions so nearing the summer is the best time to plant the potato! What are you waiting for? Grow your delicious potatoes now!
