What Your Children Should Know About Personal Hygiene

A guide for parents on personal hygiene.

It's becoming the norm to rap your children up in cotton wool and over fuse them into a confused mess. The term survival of the fittest has become the struggle of the impediment. This is mainly due to marketing and advertising of new products for the children.

A parent should have basic understanding of safety and hygiene for their growing children. The last thing your child wants is to be rubbed, dabbed, smothered, wrapped up and sitting in front of the GP for something silly like a bruise on his nose.

Bellow is a sensible guide for teaching your children personal hygiene through out their normal up bringing

  1. Wash your hands

The most simplest and best-practised method for a child's hygiene is to wash their hands before every meal. A big bar of soap and a running water facility, is the greatest way your child can learn how to wash their hands properly. Explain to your children why this is a must. It kills germs so you don't feel unwell.
  2. Bath time

Mostly done on a daily basis, but its not just a case of putting them in the bath. Finger and toe nails need to be cut. Scrub between nails with a nailbrush. Shampoo the hair and if you child is scratching their scalp, check for head lice.
  3. Things in mouth.

Toddlers love putting everything in their mouth. This is simply because they are teething. You just need to keep an eye on them, and if they do put something in, take it out immediately. Introduce them to a teething rattle. Some children like investigating tastes and will also try anything including stones, mud and leaves. Educate your child and let them know the difference between what is food and what is not.
  4. Playing outside.

When your kids get to the age of six or seven they want to play out side all the time. They are going to come back with cut knees, scrapes, burns, scratches and all sorts of other damage. Don't panic. Just make sure it free from dirt and clean. The body has a naturally defence system and will scab over any harm done to the skin. If you feel the cut wont stop bleeding or looks deep, then you may want to seek medical advice for a professional cover or bandage.

Tell your children to stay away from anything that is dead, like cats or rats. If they step in dog mess then they should know to come home immediately to get it cleaned up. And lastly your child should have a TB jab, in case he comes into contact with anything, that may cause them to get the virus.
  5. Toilet routine.

The toilet is a main concern. But this is the best way to start your children practising personal hygiene. After the toilet they should flush, wash, and dry. Simple! After a few years of practise.
  6. Medical box.

Every home should have a basic medical box. Items should include:
    • Bandages
    • Plasters
    • A range of medicines
    • Eye cleaner
    • Iodine
Anything extra is a bonus. But the medical box will help your child feel safe, especially after you have calmed them down and placed a plaster or bandage over their place of pain.

The concern of personal hygiene among your children is very important, and should be taught to them all the time. If you the adult have a high standard of hygiene, so will your children, that is of course if you teach them how it's done.
