Oftentimes parents wonder why suddenly their child comes rushing home crying. It is not even after school yet. Or sometimes a child keeps asking more food yet grows thinner by the day. Money is becoming a usual problem because the child demands for more. These are signs that your child is being bullied. What can we do to help our child from bullies? There are ways to help your child from them.
What is Bullying?
There is a thin line between teasing and bullying. If it is done in a friendly or playful way then it is still teasing. But when teasing becomes a routine or constant, hurtful and way unkind then it has become bullying.
Bullying is an intentional act of causing someone physical, verbal or psychological abuse. Bullying usually happens at school or at work.
Visible Signs of Bullying
Children who are being bullied are not always ready to talk about it. Visible bruises and injuries are big give away in figuring out if your child is being bullied. But until you see these signs, you'll never know.
Don't worry, there are warning signs. If your child is suddenly anxious, doesn't like doing the usual things he is doing, becomes suddenly upset or angered, becomes moodier each day and starts having problems sleeping or eating then a bully is bothering him.
Fighting Back Bullies
As much as we want our child to fight back or be equally physical with a bully, it is always safe to listen when your child starts opening up. Children being bullied find a hard time telling a grown up for fear of the bullying to escalate. Sometimes it makes them think parents will be disappointed they did not fight back or they became ashamed or embarrassed it is happening to them.
It is always best to advice the kids to ignore the bullies and just bravely walk away. Going with peers can lessen the bullying, leaving a slim chance for a bully to be alone with your kid. Help him how to control his anger. Encourage him to tell an adult at school like the teacher or the principal. Getting together with friends that help bring out his confidence and joining activities that will make him happy and safe with bullies is a great idea.
