Tips for Today's Parents

Family is so important and here are some ways to encourage a closer relationship between parent and child. These tips will help keep your sanity while helping to encourage interaction with your child.

In today's society there are so many things to be concerned about when parenting a child. Here are the top five things you can do to help your relationship with your child and make parenting a less stressful event.

  1. If you are wary of a situation, use your parental insight. Times are different now rather then when we grew up years ago. The current age for children to be legally left unattended is strikingly young. Use your knowledge of your child to determine whether or not to allow this privilege. You could begin by leaving them home while you go to the store for an hour or so and gradually increasing time spans until both of you are comfortable. Allowing them freedom and responsibility and allowing you to keep peace of mind.
  2. Encourage participation in school and/or athletic events. This will allow yourself and your child the opportunity to establish new friendships. It keeps them active, meaning less time to get into trouble. It also establishes a solid foundation in teamwork, cooperation, problem solving, and also allows them to feel that they have accomplished something great.
  3. Have meals together as a family. I can not stress this enough. In a world where people tend to live a fast paced life, Family meals are becoming non-existent. Sitting down to the dinner table as a family shows that family is an important part of life. It will also allow you some time to talk about important family topics and also find out what is going on in the lives of your family members.
  4. Do not always give into their demands. They will learn very quickly how to take advantage of this. They need to understand that not all things in life are just given to you. Start an allowance program giving them the opportunity to save their money for bigger and better things that they want. Offer your support and see if there is anything you can do to help their efforts.
  5. Tell them you love them everyday. Most children will tell their peers at one point in their childhood or teen years, that they are not loved at home. This becomes a basis for depression, anxiety, suicidal thoughts, runaways, etc… This can be avoided by making sure that they know how truly loved they are and how much joy they have brought into your world.

The world is a scary place for a child and even scarier for the adults that know what dangers lurk out there. These are just a few things you can do to make a difference in your child's life. The bad times will cease you just need to have patience and perseverance. To learn more about parenting tips like these.
