The Hands Which Rocks the Cradle Rules the World

The importance of motherhood.

One fine morning, I saw that there was a pigeon nest in my balcony with the mother and two white eggs. I was really not educated on how to care for the mother; I thought that the mother would soon forget about the eggs and I would not feel guilty about scaring away the mother. However, it was a different scenario as the mother would never leave the nest.

It was winter time, and the nights were pretty cold. I was shocked to see the mother warming her eggs religiously and was reluctant to even move an inch away from those eggs.

The mother would not care about who is moving around in the balcony BUT would timidly cover her eggs with her wide spread wings and convey only one message “They are MY babies; I need to bring them to this world. Please don't scare me away.”

I was moved by her gestures to protect her baby and would wonder about the unconditional love that mothers have for their children. This love was universal and it wasn't only WE “so called human beings,” who knew how to love their child.

Motherhood was found all across the animal kingdom. Mother is a symbol of love and strength. The pigeon would spread her wings and protect the eggs each and every moment. This revealed her strength and love for her eggs. The pigeon would gather hay and leaves to make the nest comfortable for her babies, which showed how much she cared about the eggs. Such is the presence of a mother in our lives; she who has taken all the pain to bring us to this world.

I would silently observe her actions and would be amazed at god's wonderful creation “A MOTHER.”

That pigeon and the two eggs were soon not only a part of my family but also my life. My soul would be rejuvenated when ever I would see the mother pigeon looking after her two eggs with so much of commitment. I would conclude that I need to experience motherhood soon.

It was around 5.45 pm when I got back from work that evening. Apparently, it was a very tiring day at work and my energy was drained out. Thought, it would not be a bad idea to rekindle my energy level with a hot cup of tea. I prepared a strong cup of tea and was strolling in my drawing room that I realized something and I rushed to my balcony. I was in a state of shock for sometime to see that she had disappeared - they were no longer there.

I had seen the newly hatched pigeons that morning, they were such tiny creatures and I had seen a sigh of relief in her eyes. Hence, I was nervous thinking, where they had gone. I thought pigeons are selfish creatures and I should not have been attached with them. Though, I was wishing that I could get to see those babies for once.

Different thoughts were rolling in my mind, until I saw something that was hard to believe. The newly hatched pigeons were killed and I could see blood stains on the walls and every where around.

Tears came rolling down my eyes and I silently looked around and saw the mother pigeon quietly sitting by my window pane.

This was an experience that had stirred my soul not because I wouldn't get to see those babies ever again. However, because a mother had lost the most precious jewels of her life… her children.
