Some toddlers take to the potty very easily, others not so well. There are probably a ton of old sayings about how to get your toddler to go pee pee in the potty, but I found a few that most moms agree work.
A lot of mothers told me that this one works the best, using good old Candy. A very simple reward system Johnny uses the potty, Johnny gets a Jelly bean. My son didn't do very well with this one, because he wasn't satisfied with just a few Jelly beans.
Show them their accomplishment by using a sticker chart. Johnny uses the potty, Johnny gets to pick out a sticker, and place it on the chart. In a few weeks he is amazed by how many stickers he has. Another great benefit of the sticker chart is that you can use it to help them learn to count. My son did very well with this he loved to pick out the stickers.
If you have a boy you can try the cheerio game. Put a few cheerios in the potty and have Johnny aim for them and see if he can sink any of them. Most little boys find this to be hilarious, and love going to the potty.
Finally sometimes you just have to show them how its done. When we first started to try and make our son use the potty we brought him a little potty and sat him on it and said big boys go pee pee in the potty. He just looked at us like we were crazy. So I brought him a little toilet seat that you put on top of your regular one. And sent his daddy to show him how its done. When he saw his role model using the big boy potty he immediately wanted to give it a try.
The biggest thing is just remember to be patient. When they are ready they will let you know.
