One dad at the kindergarten once told me that he dreaded weekends because he didn't know where to go with his toddlers. I felt sorry for daddy after he said that, because I knew he only meant well. With all your toddlers demands and feeding schedules dragging them to certain places might just be hell for you and for them! Here are some places your toddlers will really enjoy.
- Beach. Toddlers and the water no matter where they are will certainly enjoy. Just don't forget the sunscreen and the buckets and spades. Let your toddler feel the sun, sand and sea. Your toddler will come home tired but very happy.
- Parks. Bundle up the whole family in the car. Everyone needs access to the great outdoors (even if it is just the neighborhood park). Toddlers love to move around and explore.
- Wading pools. Toddlers love to bathe alongside their parents. Make sure that the water is warm enough to play in.
- Supermarket. Toddlers enjoy going to the store with mommy and daddy. They love being pushed around in a cart and watching you shop. Just make sure there isn't a whole week's worth of groceries to do or they'll be easily tired.
- Car rides. Toddlers are soothed by car rides. They love the movement and the warmth of the car. Most toddlers fall asleep the instant they get in the car. Again keep the driving to a minimum, so they don't get restless.
- Gardens. Toddlers love nature just as much as any plant lover and there is always so much to see to keep them busy even in your own backyard. Get on your hands and knees and help your toddler find the ants and the bees and whatever small creatures you can find!
- Pet shops. Animals can always calm a toddler. In the pre-school teachers often coax a toddler into calming down with an offer to feed the fish or the rabbit.
- Zoo. Another favourite place to go to. Annual passes to the zoo would be easier on the budget too.
- Fire station. Toddlers love to see big firetrucks and firemen as long as mom or dad are with them. It would be good to see how people in the community work too.
- Museum. Trips to museums with child-oriented themes and events will stick to the minds of even the pickiest toddlers
Also, don't forget the library. Most public libraries have fun stuff for children to do and it's free!
