This is a question for us to discuss when we talk about family education. You are welcome to leave your opinion here.
Television has become a part of our life, and it draws the eyeballs of the children. Many of them have the addiction of watching television, and some even go astray on their life rail. Should parents allow their children to watch TV?
No doubt, there are some programs that could lead the children to do bad things. Also, television addiction is really a problem. Some families have participated on a program called “A Day Without Television”, and they find that it is more enjoyable and beneficial to read books, or to enjoy talking with each other more. Children could spend more time on study, and play outside of the house to be close to nature. Hence, there are voices that parents should not raise their children with television: kick the television away! “A Day Without Television” becomes “Childhood Without Television”.
I have to say that it goes too far to act on the bad influences of the television. We should not neglect that television can help the children to expand their vision, and at the early stage, it can help children to speed their language skills. Especially when you have no time to spend with together, it is not a bad idea to let them watch TV for an hour or so. Once you have time, you can make them to do other things.
Proper control on their TV watching time and helping them to form a good habit to watch TV can do children good. Studies show that moving images can draw a child's attention more easily. That's why if a baby cries, you shake a bell in front of him or her, the baby would stop crying. This is also the reason that can cause television addiction. By using this feature properly, you can make your children to have better perception and better concentration by letting them watching TV.
Further, it can expand their knowledge if they are allowed to watch TV. They will learn a lot of thing from TV: nature, how to make something, history, religion, etc. Some of them cannot be learned from a book or at school. Children who watch television often have better understanding of the world than those who don't watch television.
To conclude, it is not necessary for parents to raise children without television. Let them watch television with proper control and guide.
