Parenting and the Single Parent

If you have ever been a single parent, then you know the trails and tribute one can experience when raising a family by yourself. It is not that it not rewarding, but when you have two parents taking part in the upbringing of the child or children it is much easier.

Many single parents do not have time to do all the things that are needed to be done in a day. They feel there is no end in sight. It can be frustrating sometimes for single parents. Even if you think you are doing everything possible, you still have some doubts from time to time.

Doubting yourself as a single parent is not uncommon. Some single parents experience periods of depression, loneliness and doubts of their ability to take care of their family. Some single parents have a hard time feeling good about themselves and avoid relationships because they are needed by their children and think they should give all their attentions in this one area. This is never true. A single parent needs to have open communications with other adults, even the opposite sex.

Children of a single parent sometimes welcome a new friend of the family so to speak. They also like to do things with someone else besides you. If you think that your children will object, you can introduce your friend on a picnic or at some sporting event. There are many ways to become more than a single parent if that is what you really want. Never wait for the children to grow up or you can find yourself more alone than ever.

Take some help if offered by family an friends. It is always better to have someone help you than to think you need to do it all yourself. Single parents are an overwhelming population in today's society and they need understanding as well as support. If you know someone who can help you, take the help and do not feel guilty. Asking for help does not make you a bad parent.

If there is a father or mother somewhere, make sure you have some help from them or even their families. They are just as responsible as the single parents. If you keep to yourself and never venture out, you will not be as successful as a single parent as you would think. Everyone needs his or her personal needs taken care of as well.
