Nap Time is Sacred

Why all parents and future parents should say thank you to nap time.

Nap Time, it is a sacred time amongst us parents.

The three year old is the fighter of nap time. She'll make a death man hear her scream. Our six year old; she usually manages to dodge nap time. She is getting older, so me and her mom usually let her slide by quietly. But we all know what I mean when I speak of nap time being sacred. Me and my fiancé just enjoyed a long rainy day with the girls fast asleep in their room.

When you go from a loving couple to loving parents you lose a lot, one of the biggest things being a complete lack of real responsibility. Sure, bills, clean the house, cut the lawn, were some big deals, or so I use to think so. I never knew what was real responsibility until I met my family of two girls and my now pregnant fiancé (happily made that way.) From the time the girls wake up to the time they go to sleep and beyond is their time. The parents, guess who they are, belong to them. We make the rules, but then again we also have to enforce them.

The girls rely on us for their breakfast, for entertainment, attention, to have all the answers of all the questions that I still can't believe comes out of their mouths. Lunch will be made for school, snacks are needed, breakfast must be made in a timely manner if on a work day, and so on. Let's not forget, for any fellow parents reading this, what it means to clean and teach the kids to clean. Cleaning, dishes, laundry, kids room, will always be there waiting on you.

I don't say these things to frighten future parents. There is nothing that I've found, outside of the joy of our Lord, that can compare to the miracle of loving and being loved by your child. Or in my case, until baby David is born, my fiancés children. I'm merely trying to give a good foundation for the title of this letter. Nape time, something that usually happens in the middle of the day or on car rides, is one of the times parents get to rest and enjoy their part of the day.

Today me and my fiancé enjoyed two movies, she got a full body massage, and we got to enjoy something ever more rare than glass cups around here, mid-day sex. You may laugh, but when kids are around, sex usually has to wait until after bed time. You want a moment to breath that doesn't require a baby sitter or leaving your spouse alone with the kids, praise nap time. I hated nap time when I was a kid, and now I know why my parents enforced it even when I wasn't the least bit tired or cranky. They needed their moments of peace and long time needed quiet.

Thank God for naps! I would never get anything done if my babies didn't nap.
Best Wishes,
Josey
