My Parents Made Me the Woman I Am Today

Why I am who I am because of my parents.

I am my own women because of my parents. All three of them: My mom, dad, and step-dad are, or were, entrepreneurs. My mom and step-dad own or have owned their own business and, my dad an inventor, and helper in the community in which he lived.

My dad when alive tried to better our buildings as an inventor of a new type of material that could withstand environmental destruction (such as earthquakes, hurricanes, and tornadoes) in order to keep them from crumbling. My Dad unfortunately passed away before his true dream could come to fruition. He also developed a sailing program in Reno, NV for the less fortunate kids and teens that either were economically unstable or were in deep trouble emotionally. A few of the kids he brought into his own home with his wife and assisted the kids in become better individuals by building their self-esteem through love and teaching.

My Mom is a ‘Jill-of-all-Trades' when it comes to running small businesses. She started a business that deals with anything another small business needs in order to run efficiently. Her own small business will answer the phones of the company, do their book-keeping, bill the companies own clients and more. She would, if she could call herself an accountant but she never got her CPA but I have to say that she does everything they ever do in the realm of keeping the books and more. She has even done taxes, in the past.

My step-dad was an owner of a small computer business for many years before he retired. He now assists companies with their drafting needs, via AutoCad drafting computer program, projects on a contractual basis.

Thus you cannot tell me I am not destined to be my own woman and boss. I have tried many a things before coming to the realization that I must use my writing abilities to make money. Home party sales are just not for me. I have personally tried two such companies and I have to say I failed miserably. I simply cannot tell a person that my product is better than yours if the product you are using is already working and that other one is cheaper. I am all for what works for you not what I can sell you for my profit. I also do not have the patience it takes to find the right combination that works for that person.

Writing, though, is something I love and know that I can manipulate without any problem. I hope to change the way people think just through education. I hope to open one's mind enough that they will start thinking for themselves instead of always listening to the collective whole. I can remember many incidents in history were that has gotten us in trouble: Remember Hitler, everyone thought he was great and wonderful at first, at least until he started killing all the Jews in Concentration Camps. Before that America and other countries praised him. Thus collective thinking is not always a good thing because the one in power may simply think they are better and then try and take over the World.

My dad never thought in the collective way and most inventors never did or do. Those who don't think like everyone else are usually shunned from society, at first, because of their wild inventions we have come to use every day. Electricity, telescopes, light bulbs, and even the computer we have come to rely on a daily basis were invented by those who thought outside the box (out of the collective whole). What would we do without our computer that we type memos, emails, documents, and articles, like the one I am writing right now, without the advent of the computer we have come to rely on a daily basis. Heck, we even use the computer as a tool for our entertainment: How many times have you watched an episode of your favorite show because you missed it when aired on TV? Or simply played a computer game on your free time?

Entrepreneurs have a mix of positives and negatives. There is freedom for creativity. However, the pension and health benefits are very expensive. I wish entrepreneurs did not have it so hard with taxes, etc.....
