My mother in law and I got along great during the first five years of my relationship with her son. Shortly after we started planning our wedding, she morphed from a meddling mother in law into a full blown, uncouth, offensive, and unbelievable one. Hopefully these horrifying stories will make you realize that, maybe, your mother in law isn't so bad.
She insisted that my wedding dress must be used and under $200 because I didn't need anything more than that (even though my parents were paying for the wedding dress).
She insisted that we used paper plates, plastic forks and cups for dinner at the reception.
She insisted that there didn't need to be enough tables and chairs for everyone attending, they could stand and eat.
She didn't see the need for printed napkins, birdseed for throwing, favors, candles, or champagne.
A professional photographer wasn't needed, just have a someone who likes to take pictures do it, she argued.
She couldn't understand why we were spending eight thousand on our wedding. She argued, “It's only a wedding.”
She insisted she could make the wedding cake herself because paying three hundred for the cake we wanted was ridiculous.
She said, “Don't worry honey, this won't be his only wedding.”
In spite of all her horrific comments, my husband and I planned our wedding exactly how we wanted it. Everything came out perfectly. I now only see my mother in law when I absolutely have to, like holidays and birthdays.
