My Mistake

Mistakes we make and how it affects our mother.

My mother told me the guy was no good for me. She tried to warn me but I was 18 years old and thought I knew it all. Moving out of my mother's apartment was exciting for me and heartbreaking for my mother. As I moved the last bit of items I had, I remember seeing my mom crying in the kitchen and pleading with me to stay. Telling me it was a mistake to move until I was financially stable or married.

Yes the thought of being on my own was exciting but the responsibilities were enormous. The only apartment affordable to me was located in a seedy area. Because of my youth and inexperience, people hurt me, took advantage of me, stole from me, cheated me, and even tried to frame me. Since I had never needed to budget money, my finances were limited and so my food was also limited. In the first year I was alone, I lost 80 lbs but also was unhealthy, stopped going to college, got pregnant, had an abortion and began doing drugs. Thankfully the drugs were limited due to finance and never did enough to be addicted. Almost wasted my life just because I wanted freedom and independence.

Finally decided to call my mother and ask her if I could come home. Without questions, judgments, arguments or I told you so's; my mother welcomed me back home.

Now I face the same dilemma with my daughter as did my mother with me. She's informed me she might leave to live with a man that I know is no good for her. She hasn't finished college, has no job and no clue what awaits her. There are probably no words that will convince her not to go or what she's doing is a mistake. I hope and pray daily for her to change her mind. I pray daily God gives her wisdom enough to do the right thing.

Now I'm the one standing in the kitchen pleading and crying.

Oh My God - I cried when I read your story. Thank you I'm thinking of staying home and apologizing to my mother.
