Month of May: A Tribute to All Mothers

How do you want to celebrate Mother's Day?

May 1 marks the beginning of the most special event of the month Mother's Day. From all over the world, people give commemoration to all mothers. Sometimes, it may not be the month of May, but the bottom line is, we give importance to them. Mother's Day is celebrated way back in ancient Greece and Rome. For the Greeks, it was Cybele who was the great mother of Greek gods, who they would commemorate. As for the Romans, it was Juno, the Roman goddess of marriage and queen of the gods.

Around the world, we celebrate Mother's Day. In the Philippines, it is celebrated during the second Sunday of the month. A typical Filipino-Catholic family would inaugurate their day by going to mass. In my personal experience of hearing mass during Mother's Day, our priest would ask all mothers to stand and be acknowledged while he gives his blessing. In his homily, he would include the importance of our mothers. He would also include teachings about how we should respect our mother, not only on special occasions like Mother's Day, but also in all ordinary days of the year.

How do you celebrate Mother's Day? Do you think that by giving her the most expensive things in the world would genuinely make her all special and happy? Do you think that by giving her a simple Mother's Day card would make her day?

Yes, it might be true. But you know what, material things cannot simply compensate or equate to the unconditional love our mothers have for us. We are lucky enough to have a mother who carried us in her womb for nine months, who changed our diapers in the middle of the night, who taught us so many things, who provide us our basic food, clothing, and shelter needs, who sends us to school, and who guides us for our future. Despite the rebellion, headaches and heartaches we gave them, they just did not stop being our mother. And it's the best that we can have in this world a mother. I simply salute them all!

In our simple and little ways, we might as well give them the highest regard we can give as their children a simple acknowledgement and respect. It does't have to take for the month of May to do this. We can simply start now. How can this (acknowledgement and repect) be done? It is all up to you. I believe in the uniqueness of each individual and that you can do things according to your own creative ways.

The bottom line is, the month of May is a tribute to all mothers and women alike! I can never imagine a world without women, especially mothers!

Happy Mother's Day!

It's not what you give on Mother's Day, it's how you spend it with your dear mother. :D Sometimes, your simple presence means a lot than the most extravagant gift she'll ever receive. ;) ayt!?!?

Happy Mother's Day mom! I love you! ;)
