Read to Your Kids
You hear it all the time dont you? Well, its true. Reading to your child not only helps them to learn how to read it is also great for spending time with them. Reading to your children at a younger age will aid in reading comprehension. It also teaches your child how to tell a story themselves.
Read what they want to read.
If you want your kids to feel really special than read more than just bedtime stories. Find out the types of stories they like. Do they like fairies, dinosaurs, science fiction? Whatever it is use it to keep their interest. Even if it means trying to pronounce all those scientific names for dinosaurs.
Keep it fun.
Reading comic books are great for reading comprehension because not only are the children seeing the words they are also seeing the action of the words. Just be careful in your selection of comics because some are geared more toward teenage boys. There are a number of comic books that are good for younger readers. There are even comic books for little girls.
Make a book club.
Older readers are a little harder to satisfy and probably dont like to be read to. This is when it is a good time to make your own book club. When each of you read the same book (even if it means you have to read some young adult books) then you will discover a whole new realm of things to talk about. Involve other family members if you can and maybe even your child's friends. The more minds in the discussion the better
A lifelong hobby.
Reading to your children early and reading with them as they get older will make reading a lifelong love. It will make your children smarter and well rounded. It will also make things easier for them in school. They will comprehend ideas easier and be able to keep their attention held longer when they need to read for school. They will thank you for it now and later.
