It's Saturday afternoon. You are trying to finish two or three articles so you can kick back this evening and have a cold one. The house that seems big during the week has become incredibly small in the span of a few short hours. The game is blaring on the T.V. and somebody has decided that now would be the right time to go through the entire book for the beginning clarinet. You have some ideas for content but it just is not coming together and that cold one is calling you from the refrigerator. What to do?
- Stay Focused: Put on headphones or go hide in the bathroom and get that content done.
- It's not going to produce itself: Get your outline ready and start jotting down ideas. The sentences will come together.
- Wait until everybody's in bed and pull a mini all nighter. The beer will be there in a few hours and then you can kick back and relax.
- Keep Your Perspective: Sweating the small stuff just increases your stress level. The 12,000 things that were waiting to be done yesterday will still be there, whether you like it or not. Just roll with it. Use whatever technique that works for you to alleviate stress. That doesn't include kicking the dog, however.
Whatever you do, take care of yourself, the better organized you are, the better control you will have over chaos.
