Enjoy summer with little to no budget
Summer time means hanging out family, neighbors and friends after the chores are done. Here's ten ways to enjoy that time for little to no money.
Host a bar-be-cue and provide the main dish (hot dogs are the cheapest- or maybe some hamburgers). Have guests each bring a dish to pass to round out the festivities and to offer a variety. Make a fruity punch recipe for adults and children alike.
Fruit Punch Drink
- 1-gallon of mixed Kool-Aid
- 1-2 liter of caffeine free soda
- 1- 64-ounce container of fruit juice (pineapple works great)
Tuna Macaroni Salad
- 2- cups cooked and drained elbow macaroni
- 6-ounce can tuna fish drained
- 8- ounces shredded cheddar cheese
- Salt and pepper to taste
- Mix together and chill
- Attend an outside music concert. Usually these are free and you can take a picnic lunch and enjoy time with your family.
- If you live in the country have a bonfire and invite friends for a nice evening of catching up
- Have family game night. Works great in rainy evenings, plus it's quality time spent together.
- If you have daughters at home- have a girls' night in with beauty makeovers. Do each other's hair, paint each other's nails and whip up some homemade facial cleanser.
Recipe for Facial Cleanser
- 1/2 cup oatmeal or cornmeal
- Plain yogurt (add enough yogurt to form a paste)
For a gentle facial cleanser mix ingredients, smooth over entire face avoiding eye area. Wash off with warm water.
- Sign you younger kids up for the library's summer reading program. For a few hours a week you kids can have social interaction with their friends and you can visit with other parents. Bonus: Your kids may read to their hearts content.
- Keep your kids active and sign them up for your church's vacation bible school. It's one week's worth of time for a lifetime of belief.
- Form a card party and invite neighbors and friends. Play pinochle, euchre or whatever card game. This gives you a chance to learn new card games too.
