Does child support make sense to any one? I often wonder how child support makes any sense. After doing a little research I found that non custodial parents, as they are referred to, have quite a hard time. The way it works is this; you and an other person have a child. The custodial parent dose what they have to and makes sure the child is taken care of. The non-custodial parent is now left to pay child support. Well when unable to do so this is the course of action taken by the court system. First they are sent paper work stating that they have a child and a support hearing is set. After deciding what the non-custodial parent is ordered to pay, they are sent a monthly bill statement similar to any other bill. How ever if still unable to pay for what ever reason they are once again sent to court. Now if back child support builds up to a certain amount of money, which is different from state to state.
The courts take the next steps. First they send you paper work saying that if you don't take care of this they are going to take you driver's license and take actions from there. If you still can not pay they do take your license and then set a court hearing to determine how much jail time is necessary. Then if still unable to pay you serve jail time. Now all this is to benefit the child and help the custodial parent in taking care of the child. So if a custodial parent is on government aid, which cost the state money, they can get some of it back. How ever they take your license making it hard to look for work and they put you in jail. Now the part that doesn't make sense is that they want to relive some of the burden on the state by having you pay, yet they actually coast the state more money by putting the non-custodial parent in jail. So in reality the state coast the state more money by giving the custodial parent money and putting the non-custodial parent in jail, dose this make sense to any one?
